Him Brick
This is an art trade I held with JKSketchy of DeviantArt fame. This is her take on the character “Brick” from “The Powerpuff Girls”. This is fully digital, and I had a blast doing it. There will be speed painting videos soon.

Like what you see? Lemme see if I can show you how this came to be…

Heres the original line art by Suihara.

First step is to lay down the basic colors. I do this with a large brush and erase where needed. The skin, hair, and shirt each have their own layers.

Next is to do shading for the skin clothing after deciding upon the light source. I like to leave the hair for last. DO NOT USE THE DODGE AND BURN TOOLS. Make a new layer above the basic color, select a darker/deeper color, create a clipping mask for the shading layer and go over it that way. When your satisfied with the shading, you can blur the layer for a softer look.

Now it time for hair. Remember, make a NEW LAYER OVER THE BASE COLOR. Stay away from the dodge/burn tool. Choose a darker or bolder color and begin to put darker tones into it. This may take a little while, so be patient!

Now, we make a another layer, and choose a lighter color. Using a small hard brush, we start to put in highlights in the hair. We’re almost there!

Now, we can go into the background layer, choose a light blue color, and add a nice shade to the sheet upon which she lays. Always remember to sign!
